OOTD // Styling Summer Favorites for Fall

I know most people are sad the summer is ending, and in some ways I am too (I hate when it gets dark out earlier.) But I do love this time of year, especially because of the fashion. However, sometimes it is hard to have a seamless wardrobe transition from summer to fall because it seems like one day you are wearing maxi dresses  and flip-flops, and the next day you are wearing sweaters and boots. I promise you, there can be some sort of middle ground and you can style some of your summer favorites for fall.

It’s not a secret that I am off-the-shoulder and cold-shoulder obsessed. And although there are pieces that are geared towards fall that have these details, sometimes you just want to continue to wear some of your favorites from spring/summer. Take this ruffle top for instance. It is super pretty but I have only gotten to wear it a couple of times, so I am not ready to put it away just yet. But with a few strategic styling tricks, I can wear this top for a couple more months.

I obviously paired this top with some jeans because, well, that’s a no brainer. What is really crucial for transforming pieces like this is the accessories. Shoes, for example, are one of the easiest ways to change the tone of a look. I opted for a pair of OTK boots, which I got during the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale (and have been DYING to wear!) as opposed to heeled sandals or wedges. I think the leather and sexiness gives a great juxtaposition of the softness and femininity of the top. Besides, I wear a lot of leather this time of year so it worked for me to incorporate a little bit into this look.

I also thought I would give this outfit a little bit of a more bohemian vibe by adding tassel earrings and a wool fedora. I chose accents of grey with the fedora and handbag to play up the jeans and to give it more of a fall feeling. The wool definitely has an element of warmth and texture that just embodies the feeling of autumn. I wear a ton of hats in the fall, whether they are beanies, fedoras, or other knit headwear, it all just depends on what kind of look you are going for.

It truly is amazing how changing a few details in one look can completely transition a piece from season to season. It didn’t take much to transition this summery off-the-shoulder top into a piece I can wear in the early weeks of fall. By choosing the right accessories, you too can continue to wear your summer favorites for fall.

Shop my look below. The top and hat are old but i have linked similar products. Also, you can get 20% off at ILYMIX, like the handbag here, by using the code ‘5FEET20.’
