I am not someone who stocks up on a lot of basics. Let’s face it, I like clothes that have pattern, color, and texture. Don’t get me wrong, I wear t-shirts and jeans regularly but they don’t usually excite me too much. However, I recently found that some basics with detail can look just as trendy and stylish as those items that make loud statements.
The great thing about basics is that they are just that: basic. They take little to no effort to pair with many different items in your wardrobe. So when you are running late or your outfit that you had planned suddenly doesn’t work, you can grab these pieces and get to where you need to be.
This top paired with these black skinny jeans truly depict the perfect example of how basics with detail (and the right accessories) can give you instant style. The sleeves on this top from Loft are super pretty with their lace cuff and scalloped cut. It’s just subtle enough to add a little bit of interest to an otherwise basic top.
I decided to pair this feminine tee with a pair of black ripped skinny jeans because not only do I love a black and white combo, but I love the contrast between the feminine features of the top and the edginess of the jeans. Old Navy definitely has the best cut jeans for my short stature (and these aren’t even their short hem! They are just a typical ankle length that fit PERFECTLY on me!) Plus the jeans have a ton of stretch, which is a must have for my curves.
Even though I chose to wear some basics with detail, I still wanted to add a little bit of trendiness with the black and white tassel earrings from Charming Charlie and a red lip. Because honestly, I love a good lip color when you are wearing an all neutral outfit.
