OOTD // Patchwork Denim

There are some trends that I love from the moment I see them, and then there are others that I’m like…WTF? For the latter, I usually decide that the trend isn’t for me or doesn’t fit my style which is perfectly fine because not every trend is right for everyone. That’s how I felt about patchwork denim when the trend emerged last spring. It gave me flashbacks to middle school to the patchwork flares I use to own so it made me cringe.

However, after a year of it being around it has grown on me especially when on boyfriend jeans. That’s why I thought I would give the trend a try. Since athleisure is super in right now, I thought pairing these jeans with some cool slip on sneakers would give these jeans a little extra edge and attitude.

I kept the rest of the look simple since the patchwork is the main detail I wanted to highlight. And to be honest you can never go wrong with a basic T-shirt and jeans combo. So next time you think you want to rule out a trend as “not for you,” remember that you should never say never!

OOTD // Olive Green Vest

I sometimes have to be careful with the long layers I choose, because if they don’t fit right they can swallow me up or just hit me in a funny spot due to my short stature. Yes, some could argue that I could always bring the item to get altered but in my case, the piece would likely hang outside my closet for a long time before ever making it to the tailor’s, all the while I could have found something that actually fit me. That’s why it’s definitely crucial for me to try on  longer pieces.

This vest, however, is perfection. It falls right at the knee and is such a light weight that it moves beautifully with you. The material of the best makes the vest seem a bit dressier, which makes it perfect as part of your work wardrobe, but it also looks great styled casually with a simple T-shirt and jeans like I have done here. Long vests are great basic to add to your wardrobe and will easily become one of your go to pieces so I highly suggest you snatch one up!

Mother nature has been kind to us here lately in CT with temperatures in the 50/60’s so hopefully the end of winter is approaching!

Also, these sunglasses came as part of my subscription box from SOL Theory. If you would like to received a pair of sunglasses MONTHLY you can use “STYLEB20” to get 20% off your  first subscription box!

Manicure Monday // Dark Nude

Another Monday means another manicure, and this week I chose a shade that is a little bit unusual for me. Typically I choose something either dark or kind of bold, however this week I chose a dark nude polish that is warm and neutral. And as a result…I’m in love! It feels sophisticated and pretty and literally goes with EVERYTHING. Sometimes when you choose a nude polish it literally looks like you are just wearing a clear coat and for me that’s like “what’s the point?” But this color has enough pigment and contrast to my skin tone that it just looks really clean.

The color I used at the nail salon was DND’s “Butternut Squash” but if you want to try this at home I suggest using Zoya’s “Spencer.”

OOTD // Dusty Pink and Taupe

I have been battling a little virus this week after my daughter gave it to me, and nothing is worse than a sick 10 month old (OH the joys of parenthood.) Luckily, I am starting to feel like myself again and sometimes the best medicine is putting on a cute outfit and makeup…am I right?! You feel good when you look good!

This sweater coat I got in the beginning of the season has been my go to when I want to be warm and cozy. It literally feels like a bathrobe but looks super stylish. And I know you must think I’m going crazy because I have been wearing so much pink lately, but hey what can I say? When I get into phase or trend I go hard and right now I’m feeling really pretty in pink. Also, I got this top for $6 at TJ Maxx…so it really didn’t matter what color it was for that price!

My favorite aspect of this look (besides it being super comfortable) is the color pallet. I like the muted pastel tones especially the taupe mixed with the dusty pink. It’s soft and feminine and since it is super grey and dirty this time of year, a little softness is refreshing. And although these booties are no longer available online, Express is having a 40% off EVERYTHING sale. So yea…I’d hit that up if I were you!

Spring Trend du Jour // Spring Denim

With the hectic winter we have been having here in Connecticut, you can’t blame me for dreaming of spring already. Although I know spring is still months away, I can’t help but plan what I want my wardrobe to entail once the flowers start to bloom and the temperature rises above 60 degrees.

Denim is essential to every wardrobe. In fact, it’s a staple. When it comes to spring wear, the variety of denim options is immense. There are patches and fringe, tops and jacket and the amount of different washes and cuts is even more limitless. Many may think that fall is when denim hits its peak, but to me, spring is denim’s mecca.

OOTD // Valentine’s Day

It’s Valentine’s Day! And to some, this holiday may be cheesy or stupid or corny…but to me it’s one of the most special days of the year. It’s not because of the gifts, or the loving gestures, or even the flowers and hearts (though those are all a plus!) but it’s because in 2005 my husband and I started dating. This year marks 12 years of us being together! We were juniors in high school and after a very romantic dinner at Ruby Tuesday’s (hey we were 16!) I came home to find my bedroom filled with candles that spelled out “PROM?” It amazes me how far we have come from those kids with a kid of our own now.

That’s why I put thought into every Valentine’s Day (with the exception of last year since we had just bought a house!) This year I put together an elegant look that is perfect for date night with your boyfriend or husband. The pink and red combo is bold and fresh, and even though it’s the colors of the holiday, they will also work well when spring finally arrives.

I wore this lace top last summer in an all blush look, but since it is super cold around here I thought I would pair my pink coat over my shoulders. This makes the pink really stand out and also adds an element of sophistication (not to mention warmth!) Also, I’m loving this red pleated midi skirt because it is super comfy and versatile. (Plus is on sale with an additional 40% off at Express!) I also thought the outfit paired well with the 3D floral clutch from Charming Charlie (right now it’s sold out but keep checking because it could come back in stock!) It’s such a statement maker and also has a chain so you can wear it as a shoulder bag.

This Valentine’s Day, dress to the nines and treat your significant other with lots of love!

OOTD // Winter Greys

Winter is here in full force in New England. It seems as though every other day we are getting more and more snow. I always find it funny that snow is light around here during the Christmas season but when February comes around and I am starting to feel ready for spring, we get hit with winter hard. But I digress…

Since the stores are starting to fill up with spring nod resort wear, it’s hard not to be tempted to buy it and even harder not to want to wear it. I am a buy now wear now type of girl so I am always trying to be creative in styling pieces that may seem out of season. That’s why I chose to style this grey stipend top and ripped acid wash jeans for the winters mess I am currently living in.

Typically when it comes to fall and winter denim, you typically think of darker colors and not so much acid wash. But paid them with a good pair of booties and a chunky sweater or a warm coat and they instantly become winter wear.

This top, however wasn’t so cut and dry. The fabric is light and the sleeves are three quarter length at best (and can we talk about how pretty those sleeves are?!) I obviously wore the parka in order to keep warm and I also layered a tank underneath, so layering is crucial. But I also coordinated matching winter accessories with the grey pom beanie and taupe booties in order to make this piece more cold weather appropriate.

Both the jeans and the booties are on sale at Express and right now there is an additional 40% off clearance! Also, the parka is on sale at Target for under $25!
