OOTD // Layers in Maine

I was fortunate enough to spend the last 5 days in Maine with the hubs, Scarlett (her first vacation ever!) and some great friends at my in-law’s vacation home. Maine this time of year is absolutely gorgeous. There are so many colors! You’d think that because I live in Connecticut that I would be immune to the beauty of fall in New England, but it amazes me every year!

Yesterday we spent the day doing some shopping and getting some grub in Freeport, but prior to that we went to what is known as “The Giant Stairs” on Bailey Island. Even though it was a cooler day, it was absolutely gorgeous over looking the ocean. It was pretty windy and even though the sun was strong, layering was an absolute must. I wore my shearling vest because it’s such a warm and cozy staple but I still felt the need to wear my leather jacket on top. I thought the combo worked well because at first glance you would think that the shearing was part of the jacket, which is pretty cool.

I also coordinated Scarlett’s leggings with the plaid on my vest. We haven’t had the chance to have matching outfits quite yet because she is so little and they don’t have so many mommy and baby outfits, but as she is getting bigger I’m starting to find more options. Plus this is Scarlett’s debut on the blog so everyone welcome her!

OOTD // Casual Ruffles

Today was strangely warm for mid October. I even contemplated putting the AC on! Weird right? So I definitely had to wear something a little cooler than planned.

Luckily I went shopping this weekend as a premature celebration of my mother’s birthday (Happy Birthday Mom! xo) and I found this pretty top on sale! The ruffles on the sleeve and across the chest are so light and add such great movement to an otherwise plain T-shirt. Typically I don’t like shirts with additional volume on the chest because God knows I don’t need any help there, but it is so minimal that I don’t mind at all.

This is also the first time I had ever worn a choker since middle school! (Remember those plastic ones that came in so many different colors?) I bought this one because I love the color…hello merlot everything please! Also, I love the different layers and the suede material. It gives it a little bit more of a luxe feel.

Speaking of luxe, could anything be more luxurious than gold booties?? I mean I wish I could have everything be gold…but then I would look crazy like Goldmember or something! Anyway, I got these booties a few years ago and I thought it was time for me to wear them again because my outfit needed a pop.

My dog, Raleigh is usually outside with me when I take these photos for the blog and most of the time he gets into a shot or two and I have to retake it. But today I figured it would be fun to purposely have in a few pictures. He’s totally my baby and my buddy. All he wants is to be around my husband and I to be loved (which we absolutely do!) He is the best dog anyone could ask for. We rescued him over 5 years ago and he is my little fur baby❤

OOTD // Southwest Cardigan

This time of year is perfect, when a simple cardigan can keep you warm. Before we know it we are going to need to basically wrap our bodies in everything we own in order to keep warm so I cherish this time of year very much.

This cardigan is all the statement this outfit truly needs. It’s a great length and I love the fringe detail as well as the southwestern inspired pattern. That’s why I kept the rest of the clothing simple and all black. I added the touches of brown in the bag and shoes just to add a little contrast. (Besides if you can’t tell by now, these are my favorite boots this year! And I won’t stop wearing them anytime soon! #sorrynotsorry)

Adding the fedora was the final piece of this ensemble because it accentuated the bohemian vibe of the fringe as well as the western elements. Plus the feather trim is probably the coolest detail ever! I love wearing hats during the fall and winter and take every opportunity I can to! Plus, it means you don’t have to wash and style your hair as much!

Fall Trend du Jour // Totally into Trenches

Nothing is classic or as versatile as a really good trench coat. That’s why I feel they are an absolute must have for fall and spring. They are moderate in weight so you can layer accordingly and they come in a variety of colors and patterns. My personal favorites are those that have oversized collars or sleeve details. What’s your pick?

OOTD // Fall Coziness

October is so beautiful with the colors of the changing leaves on the trees and the pumpkins adorning the front steps. The cool air is so refreshing and all I want to do is snuggle up and be cozy. That’s why this textured cardigan is perfect for this time of year and will only get better once we see some serious temperature drop. It’s the softest material, it feels like a bathrobe but with a lot more style.

To add a little more comfort, I added this amazing blanket scarf. Besides, this outfit needed a little bit of color and I was definitely feeling these fall tones. And what’s even better about this time of year along with all the layers is all of the hat options! I love myself a good hat! Beanies, snoods, fedoras…I love them all! This felt fedora is one of my favorites from last year so I was ready to take it out of storage!

OOTD // Touches of Merlot

Well it’s pretty typical here in Connecticut to have a cold and gloomy week only to be followed by a moderately warm and sunny one. Luckily we are currently in the latter. You can feel the warmth of summer hanging on for dear life but the evidence of fall is everywhere, so why fight it?

I love this time of year where a jacket is optional and the accessories can just be piled on for the sake of fun and not warmth! This light weight long sleeve will be great for when I absolutely have to wear a third piece, but for right now I’m perfectly comfortable in it as is! And the shape is super flattering. I don’t normally like such drapey tops because I fear that with my large bust I will look like I am expecting my second child (WHICH I’M NOT…nor am I planning on it any time soon.) However, the asymmetrical hem on the top still helps give your body a leaner shape.

Now a striped top and black skinny jeans can come off a bit simple. So I decided to add these amazing merlot lace up heels and coordinating felt fedora to add a little punch of color. And this color HAS TO BE my favorite color for fall (it even matches my manicure!) I love merlot the color, and obviously the drink too….😉

Until next time…xoxo
