Someone asked me what I thought about the athleisure trend that is so popular right now, and to be honest I really like it. I think it’s nice that you can be comfortable and look stylish. However, in my opinion, I cannot wear it in the same manner as other fashion bloggers. You will see a lot of women on social media in their oversized sweatshirts that are hanging off of one shoulder paired with skin tight leggings and sneakers. They look flawless but if I were to try to wear a big sweatshirt and leggings I would look either homeless or heavier than I actually am. So my take on athleisure looks a little different than what you may be use to seeing (with the exception of me actually working out at the gym…)
When I do athleisure, it is less workout wear and more athletic inspired. The perfect representation of what I mean is this fishnet bomber jacket that I got during the Nordstrom Winter Sale. It looks sporty and cool but has a stylish component to it with an unexpected detail on the sleeve. If I tried to put leggings on with this jacket I think it would be the wrong look for me (I’m way to curvy for that.) Instead, I decided to dress up this jacket with a pair of skinny jeans, silver pumps, and my white tassel earrings to make this look have a little more pizazz. Again, the look is more athletic inspired with a feminine twist and a little less effortlessly fit.
So you don’t always have to take a trend as it is. If it doesn’t ring true to you or your style, you can always put your own spin on it. That way you stay true to who you are and your taste.
